Just before years end the construction of a new office building is completed, which is part of a large investment program in 2010. The new office floor space is a key requirement for further substantial growth of the company.

Novamelt welcomed a large number of visitors on its booth at the South China Label Show. The focus was on UV-curable hotmelt pressure sensitive adhesives for filmic wash-off labels or wet wipe closure labels.

Novamelt is pleased to announce that Mr. Ken Zhao has joined Novamelt as Business Development Manager as of March1^st, 2010. His responsibility is to grow and support the company’s business in pressure sensitive adhesives mainly in the Asia Pacific region.

Ken has worked in the industrial tape industry for several years. This experience will allow him easily to enter into the hotmelt pressure sensitive industry for label, tape and medical applications.

We are convinced that Ken Zhao in his new position will strengthen and develop Novamelts business in the Asia-Pacific region.

During Label Expo Asia a Label Production Technology Seminar was organized by the companies Wacker Chemicals, UPM Kymmene, Polytype Converting and Novamelt.

The Technical Director of Novamelt, Wolfgang Ziegler, gave a presentation under the headline “Bonds that last”. Besides demanding solutions for special label applications he reflected the different adhesive technologies for labelstock. Novamelt wins the ICE Europe Innovation Award 2009 in the category Coating & Converting. With this new delivery form for UV-hotmelt in multi-use IBC containers Novamelt is setting new standards.

In 2008 Novamelt saw a 16% growth worldwide of their hot pressure business showing a consolidated group turnover 29.6 million Euros. This was predominately achieved in Q1 and Q2 with a slow down of business in Q3 and Q4 due the worsening of the global economic crisis over this period.

Novamelt is also producing in the US which has helped the company with its strategy for internationalisation, it has recently reported new business successes in Latin and South America along with new opportunities in Asia. The raw material situation was characterised by significant price increases combined shortages of supply in 2008. Nonetheless Novamelt was able to meet the demands of their customers without having any significant disruption to their supply chain.

For 2009 Novamelt predicts a further slowdown in certain key market sectors and geographical areas. They are confident that the majority of the reduction in demand from existing customers can be offset by growth in new international markets. Novamelt has confidently budgeted to sell the same volume of PSA in 2009 as sold in 2008.

Novamelt expands its sales activities in South America and supplies now pressure sensitive hotmelt adhesives to Colacril in Brazil.

The newly developed PSA-hot melt adhesive Novamelt® PS 3030 is an excellent solution for labels that are applied at very low temperatures, far below the freezing point.

PS 3030 has outstanding tack performance in cold conditions down to -16°C combined with excellent adhesion to a wide range of packaging films as well as cardboard.

Novamelt presents with Novarad® RC 24110 a UV-curable pressure sensitive hotmelt adhesive that is suitable for wash-off No-Label-Look labels. The adhesive can be removed in an industrial washing process without any residues from glass bottles. A suitable substrates is for example a Cellulose film from Innovia Films.

With this new technology it is now possible to adopt market trends from the cosmetic industry for high-class labels for applications at returnable glass bottles in the beverage industry.

Environmentally friendly pressure sensitive hotmelts have surpassed solvent and water based adhesives in many industrial self adhesive sectors. The only disadvantage to date has been the lack of thermal resistance due to the thermoplastic reversible performance.

As adhesive producers we are making continuous efforts to improve the thermal performance of pressure sensitive hotmelts.

With our new development of Novamelt® PS 5040, we have further extended our product range with another hotmelt adhesive with greatly improved thermal resistance values. The shear temperature (SAFT) is at ca. 100ºC. This has been achieved without compromising the higher processing viscosity and limits in the melting performance and application speed.

Novamelt-Jowat LLC attended the bi-annual Label Expo in Chicago, held at the Rosemont Convention Center. The Label Expo served as an introduction of Novamelt for the Labeling Industry in North America.

The state of the art booth with rich Novamelt colors, and modern lines attracted visitors from US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Russia.

The products on display at the show included the Novamelt® PS products, the thermal rubber based adhesives used in the label and tape applications, and Novarad® RC products, the UV-curable acrylic adhesives, for the”no-label-look” applications.

Owner-managed family company Nova melt, which specializes in pressure-sensitive adhesives and UV curable psa?s, soon will produce and distribute its products locally in the United States. Founded in 1989, the company already has developed, manufactured and distributed its products exclusively within Europe. Novamelt is responding to customer demands for a local presence in the U.S. market. Novamelt develops, manufactures and distributes 100% solid, pressure-sensitive adhesives, in particular UV curing PSAs made of thermoplastic rubbers under the brand names Novamelt? PS and Novamelt? RC. These adhesives are used for self-adhesive labels, adhesive tapes, hygiene and medical self-adhesive products as well as self-adhesive industrial intermediate goods. The company, which focuses exclusively on 100% solid, pressure-sensitive adhesives, currently has sales of ? 16 million and 40 employees.

Novamelt has decided to expand into the U.S. market in cooperation with the German- based family company Jowat AG, which is already operating there. Jowat is an important, international manufacturer of industrial adhesives that develops, manufactures and distributes solvent-based, aqueous dispersion and hot-melt adhesives. These are used in the wood manufacturing, paper and packaging, and textile and automobile industries. The Jowat Group employs more than 600 people, and group sales in 2005 will be approximately ? 140 million.

Both owner-managed family companies have founded joint venture Novamelt-Jowat LLC, with its principal place of business in North Carolina, United States, in which Novamelt GmbH holds 51% of the shares.

Construction of the manufacturing plant on the Jowat Corporation premises near High Point, North Carolina, is progressing according to plan. Completion is expected in March 2006.

Similar to Novamelt in Wehr, the joint venture company Novamelt-Jowat LLC will have application technology labs, which will allow customers to test coatings on-site.

The bundling of the strengths of Novamelt, a leading manufacturer of environmentally friendly pressure-sensitive adhesives and 100% solid PSAs, and Jowat?s 30 years of experience in the U.S. market constitutes a win-win situation for American customers in the coating sector.

In the past years of Novamelt GmbH has seen the sustainable growth and continuous expansion of the production capacities. Therefore, the warehousing of most raw materials as well as finished products has been outsourced to an external logistic company which is located near by Novamelt.

Just in time to be ready for 2005, it was possible to finish a new building. A new warehouse and despatch facility was built on approx. 2000 m2 lot. This new facility meets all requirements of most modern, state of the art of warehousing and dispatching. Especially with the implementation of the high-rack facilities Novamelt utilized completely new and innovative ideas. Both, efficiency and productivity of the operating processes have been improved significantly.

The new complex covers beside the warehouse and despatch area also additional offices for R&D and quality assurance. Thanks to this building the basis for further growth of Novamelt GmbH is now present.

In addition to the dispatch and warehouse area, this new building complex covers offices for R&D and quality assurance. With this enlargement, a solid foundation for the future growth of Novamelt GmbH has been provided.

Novamelt has invested in a state of the art coating machine for pressure sensitive adhesives. Therefore the curtain-coating technology is now available in house. As the coater is also equipped with UV-lamps, radiation curable adhesives can be used on it as well.

This new technology gives a lot of benefits, such as reduction of the coating weights and increased line speed. Furthermore it is possible to coat porous substrates without any adhesive penetration. An additional new feature is the possibility to coat thermo sensitive substrates directly.
